Peripheral devices

POS computers require sufficient free interfaces so that you can connect the various peripheral devices.

Printers

  • The receipt printer, located directly at the cash register can be connected directly.
  • For a remote receipt printer (catering: counter, kitchen etc.) we recommend a normal print server. Please do not install Epson printer drivers for these printers as they block the ports. Normally PC CADDIE does not print via the Windows drivers but sends the commands directly to the port. A print server would therefore have to be installed so that it is mapped to an LPTx or COMx (e.g. LPT3) for the POS PC. If a driver installation is necessary for this, please simply install a standard printer driver „Generic text only“.
  • The complex bag tag printouts are only possible with laser or inkjet printers possible. However, inkjet printers are not waterproof. The printer should be able to feed thicker paper (approx. 130g/m²) and have a manual tray that can hold more than just one blank bag tag. Various golf clubs have had good experiences with models from Hewlett-Packard (e.g. HP LaserJet 1100), Lexmark or Canon (LBP 1120, very favourable). Kyocera models probably even have the advantage of a ceramic roller. Please make sure that the printers react quickly and do not require a „warm-up phase“. The price-performance ratio of the laser printers available on the market is now very good.
  • The bag tags can contain details of the customer's name, HCP, starting time, green fee type, price etc. and a logo can be integrated. It would be possible for a sponsor to design the reverse side. The PC CADDIE bag tags are printed as standard on a DIN long format (or slightly smaller: 210x90mm). You could have these cut to size by BLANKO at your print shop. Different colours and the punching of a hole for the tag are useful.
  • Paper type and thickness of the bag tags are up to you. A thickness of approx. 130g/m² would probably be appropriate for bag tags. Some golf clubs in Switzerland have had really good (but not so cheap) experience with the paper product „NEOBOND“. This is even 200g/m², but is so flexible that a standard laser printer can process it well. It is slightly roughened and weather-resistant. Another customer uses „PRETEX Impregnated Special Paper“ from Papierfabrik Lahnstein (Germany) and is very satisfied with it (but it is also quite expensive). It is best to consult your print shop about paper weight, weather resistance and to avoid high rigidity, strength, heat sensitivity (printer) and a coating that is far too smooth.

TIP A perforated bag tag with an integrated, personalised scorecard in A4 format is highly recommended, as this offers the guest a full service and at the same time protects the printer roller. Please feel free to contact us: support@pccaddie.com .
